Can you feel summer coming? Between the crisp Spring days, I can feel the hint of summer rushing at me. I see the kids outside on their bikes, the adults in their gardens or walking their dogs and I can feel it coming soon.
Do you know what else I can sense? Sunburn. Lots and lots of sunburn.
And while I try not to get all preachy on people, if there is one thing that I don't believe in, it's sunburn. (That is, unless you're stranded on a deserted island.) Here's the deal people; you can get a sunburn any time you're outside for a length of time. Even if it's cloudy or cool or not quite summer yet.
Do you know what sunburn does to your skin? It causes wrinkles, fine lines, the dreaded sun spots and potentially even skin cancer. It's not cute, or funny or something you should strive for. You shouldn't let your skin burn once so you tan easier next time. And you definitely need to protect your children's skin every day. One blistering sunburn on your child today increases their risk of skin cancer by 50% in the future. (One sunburn.)
You need to go stock up on sunscreen now so that there isn't an excuse later. And by stocking up now, you'll save yourself having to shell out three times as much at the gas station when you're out.
I heard the term "Cullen Club" from someone describing a fair-skinned friend, and I loved it. For all of you Twilight fans, will you join me in the Cullen Club? And for those of you who have no idea who the Cullens are, just promise you're going to take care of your skin this summer.
