Answer: Well, it’s generally considered a service and not a job, but I understand what you mean. Not all salons and spas do things exactly the same, but I’ll tell you what you can generally expect.

• Ask questions. Hopefully you have a referral from a friend or family for a good technician to make an appointment with because it will have a huge impact on your experience. If not, seek out salons and spas that specialize in hair removal, not just offer it on the side. Call and ask what hair their Brazilian wax removes, so you’re not in for any surprises. Some facilities won’t remove hair from the behind and others won’t perform a Brazilian on a man.
• Are you a candidate? If you have never visited the salon or spa for any type of waxing you should be asked to fill out a questionnaire to make sure you don’t have any circumstances or conditions that would not make you a candidate for waxing.
• Get started. You will be lead to a private room and asked to remove your pants and possibly your underwear. Some salons will give you disposable thong panties to make you more comfortable, while others will have you nude from the waist down. A styrofoam cup is often given to men to cover their genitals. • The consult. Once the technician returns, they will go over how the process works and what your expectations are. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or voice your preferences if you want to stray from the traditional Brazilian. Like for example, you don’t want hair removed from your behind.
• The prep. Hair needs to be at least ?” long for the wax to grab onto. If the hair is really long then the tech will have to trim it down a bit with scissors or clippers. Waxing hair that is too long will make it more painful, and also has more of a tendency for breaking hair above or below the skin’s surface, instead of coming out of the root.

  The area will be cleansed and powder or oil will be applied to your skin. Most technicians use hard wax because it works great on coarse hair, so oil which helps protect the skin will be applied. Otherwise powder will be put on the skin to absorb any oils and help the wax not stick as much to the skin for soft wax.

• The process. Wearing gloves, the technician will apply warm wax on the hair with an applicator. Hard wax doesn’t require a strip, so will dry a bit before it’s removed. With soft wax, a strip of cloth or muslin will be put over the wax. The technician will hold your skin taut before removing the wax in a quick pull so it’s less painful. They will continue to work in sections until hair is removed.

  Some technicians will use a towel to cover the area they’re not working on if you’re not wearing disposable panties to give you more modesty, while others find it gets in their way.

  You will have to lift your legs up, possibly to your chest or even get on your knees so the tech can get to all of the hair. The technician may even ask for your help to hold skin taut at some part of the process. An experienced person will make you feel relaxed and perform the service professionally. • The clean up. Because wax shouldn't be applied over skin more than once, any stray hairs missed by the wax will be cleaned up with tweezers.
