Why turn to trimming pubic hair? Shaving gets rid of the hair and the skin is smooth, at least for a day or so. But shaving often comes with a price. Instead of shaving everything off many men and women are trimming down all or part of the region to look more groomed, while avoiding the side effects that the razor can inflict.

Advantages of Trimming Pubic Hair Over Shaving
- No razor burn. Since the hair is being trimmed, and a razor isn’t touching the skin, you don’t have to worry about it becoming irritated and red.
- Less chance of razor bumps. The hair can still grow back into the skin without shaving it, but you’ll have much less likelihood of getting bumps or ingrown hairs from trimming alone. However, the shorter you trim it, the more your odds go up for getting bumps (see bump-fighting products).
- No cuts. Getting nicks and cuts is bad enough on your legs, face or underarms. But cuts in your bikini zone can be extra painful. This is especially painful for men who can end up nicking their genitals (read more).
- Less Itching. Because of the delicate nature of the skin down below, the area often gets itchy after shaving when it begins to grow back- all too soon. This tends to happen when shaving the first few times.
