Q&A - Skin Care for Your 20's

Question: Skin Care Q&A - Skin Care Product Recommendations for a 20 Year Old

I am 20 years old and I am looking for product recommendations.

  • I need a good but cheap day cream with spf, if it's really necessary. Right now I am using Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 .
  • I am also looking for a good night cream. I'm currently using Pond's Dry Skin Cream which is really cheap, but I don't know if it's good.
  • And then a good under eye cream, preferably with SPF, for dehydration lines. I have used La Roche Posay's Hydraphase, but it was a little sticky.

Do you any suggestions for me?

Answer:

The Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 (compare prices) doesn't get the best reviews typically. People find that it causes breakouts as well as leaving their skin more sensitive then before. But you don't mention having these problems, which is good. For those who loved this moisturizer, they loved everything about it, including the shimmer, the light feeling and the soft scent.

It is very important to use SPF daily. You're only 20 right now; if you use SPF daily you are going to prevent a lot of the early signs of aging. Did you know that 90% of premature aging is from sun damage? Very important!

If you want to try something new, here are a few suggestions. The Body Shop has a seaweed line for combination skin. (visit site) I personally used this line for a long time and loved it. I adore Kimberly Sayer's Ultra Light moisturizer with SPF 25. (visit site) This container contains 5 full ounces of product. I'd guess you only need to buy 2 bottles for an entire year. But, you do have to order it online, which isn't as convenient as going to your drugstore. And lastly, you might love Boots No7 Radiant Glow Beauty Lotion, which is nice and light. (visit site) You can get it at Target.

As for the Ponds Dry Skin Cream; I'd skip this one. It is a basic old fashioned moisturizer that uses oil to hydrate. I'd recommend Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Face Night Lotion. (visit site) This is for normal skin, and helps your skin get regular exfoliation by the inclusion of AHA's. It also contains antioxidants which help combat free radicals, which help fight off signs of aging.

Last, eye creams: Dove's Fresh Radiance Anti-aging eye cream gets pretty good reviews, but it doesn't have SPF in it, so make sure you protect your eyes with your regular moisturizer. Apply the eye cream first and then your SPF moisturizer after.
