Eyebrows: Wax Vs Tweeze

Waxing versus tweezing, which one to choose? Be sure to pick wisely because just by taking away a few too many brow hairs, or leaving a couple extra can entirely throw off the overall balance and shape. How you choose to design your brows can mean the difference between a beautiful frame to your eyes, or an uneven mess.

The two most popular ways to create beautiful brows, waxing and tweezing both remove the entire hair follicle from the root. So what’s the difference between using these two methods for shaping brows? Here’s the face-off.

Contraindications

  • Waxing: Certain conditions or medicines conflict with waxing, and can make skin red or scabby (read precautions).
  • Tweezing: Can basically be done on anyone, despite their condition or medicine they take. When used correctly, tweezers shouldn’t have any harmful effects on the skin.

Speed

  • Waxing: Many hairs are taken off at once, so it’s fairly quick.
  • Tweezing: Hairs have to be removed one-by-one, which can take a half hour or more for eyebrow shaping.

Fine Hairs

  • Waxing: Easily grabs onto all hair, even fine ones. You get a very smooth surface.
  • Tweezing: Can grasp thicker hairs, but has a hard time taking out fine ones. So some “fuzz” can still remain (this is good for men who don't want a very clean look).

Control/Accuracy

  • Waxing: If you’re not experienced the wax can accidentally spread onto more hair than you wanted, and remove hairs you weren’t planning on. Even removing a few extra hairs can mess up the overall shape of the brows. (Get step-by-step to waxing brows.)
  • Tweezing: You have great control, and can accurately choose the hairs you're removing. (Get step-by-step to tweezing brows.)

Supplies

  • Waxing: You need to get wax, a heater, strips, applicators, powder, and wax remover. Learn more: Facial and Body Waxing Supplies.
  • Tweezing: You only need a good pair of tweezers.

Q&A - Skin Care for Your 20's

Question: Skin Care Q&A - Skin Care Product Recommendations for a 20 Year Old

I am 20 years old and I am looking for product recommendations.

  • I need a good but cheap day cream with spf, if it's really necessary. Right now I am using Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 .
  • I am also looking for a good night cream. I'm currently using Pond's Dry Skin Cream which is really cheap, but I don't know if it's good.
  • And then a good under eye cream, preferably with SPF, for dehydration lines. I have used La Roche Posay's Hydraphase, but it was a little sticky.

Do you any suggestions for me?

Answer:

The Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 (compare prices) doesn't get the best reviews typically. People find that it causes breakouts as well as leaving their skin more sensitive then before. But you don't mention having these problems, which is good. For those who loved this moisturizer, they loved everything about it, including the shimmer, the light feeling and the soft scent.

It is very important to use SPF daily. You're only 20 right now; if you use SPF daily you are going to prevent a lot of the early signs of aging. Did you know that 90% of premature aging is from sun damage? Very important!

If you want to try something new, here are a few suggestions. The Body Shop has a seaweed line for combination skin. (visit site) I personally used this line for a long time and loved it. I adore Kimberly Sayer's Ultra Light moisturizer with SPF 25. (visit site) This container contains 5 full ounces of product. I'd guess you only need to buy 2 bottles for an entire year. But, you do have to order it online, which isn't as convenient as going to your drugstore. And lastly, you might love Boots No7 Radiant Glow Beauty Lotion, which is nice and light. (visit site) You can get it at Target.

As for the Ponds Dry Skin Cream; I'd skip this one. It is a basic old fashioned moisturizer that uses oil to hydrate. I'd recommend Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Face Night Lotion. (visit site) This is for normal skin, and helps your skin get regular exfoliation by the inclusion of AHA's. It also contains antioxidants which help combat free radicals, which help fight off signs of aging.

Last, eye creams: Dove's Fresh Radiance Anti-aging eye cream gets pretty good reviews, but it doesn't have SPF in it, so make sure you protect your eyes with your regular moisturizer. Apply the eye cream first and then your SPF moisturizer after.

How To Prevent Pubic Shaving Rash?

Pubic shaving rash or razor burn is quite common in this area over others because the hair is thicker and can affect those with more sensitive skin or who shave often. But we have some tips to minimize burning, redness and pain.

  • Allow skin and hair to soften. Instead of jumping in the shower and shaving immediately, let the steam relax skin for about five minutes so it's more pliable.

  • Use a moisturizing shave gel or cream. Alcohol strips moisture from the skin. Stay clear if that's in the ingredients list, especially at the beginning. Instead choose products containing hydrating ingredients like glycerin, goat's milk, shea butter, and oils.

Prefer a gel and on a budget? Try Bikini Zone Shave Gel. Love the consistency of a cream? Give this one from Simply Sensual a shot.
  • Trim hair first. If you use your razor to trim hair, it not only uses valuable cutting power but dulls the blade (which causes burn), and irritates skin by pulling on hair. Cut the length down first with clippers using a guard or the Venus Bikini Trimmer (read review).

  • Choose the right razor. Electric razors made for the face and cheap disposables are out. Definitely use a high quality pivoting razor with moisture strips. If your skin is very sensitive, try using a single blade razor, rather than one with mulitiple blades.

  • Use pre shaving oil. All it takes is a couple drops (compare prices) underneath your shaving gel or cream to create a barrier on the skin so the razor glides instead of drags. It also helps prevent ingrown pubic hair too!

  • Watch your technique. Use firm, but not aggressive pressure using warm, not hot, water. Go over an area once, maybe twice with the razor. Holding skin taut will provide a closer shave, but may cause irritation. If you have very sensitive skin, only shave with the grain of hair. Don't forget to rinse your blade thoroughly between strokes to avoid pubic hair shaving rash. When finished, rinse skin of hair with cool water.

  • Keep skin moisturized. Use an aftershave or light lotion that doesn't contain alcohol, perfumes, dyes or artificial fragrances. Regular deodorant soaps can be very harsh and drying, use something gentle like Tom's of Maine Deodorant Soap (compare prices).

  • Beware of heat and friction. Stay away from hot tubs, saunas and tanning beds the day of shaving. Do not make tight clothing part of your fashion plan. Abstain from sexual activity for at least a couple of hours, if not more.

Avocado Citrus Masque

This home made skin care recipe is provided to us from Mindy Terry, Lifestyle Expert and President, Creative Spa Concepts.

Ingredients:

  • ? Ripe Organic Avocado
  • 3 Chunks Fresh Pineapple
  • ? Organic Lime
  • 1 TBS Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/2 TBS Honey (Local, if available)
  • To Cleanse Before Mask: approximately ? tsp. Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

Instructions:

Add avocado and pineapple chunks to a food processor. Squeeze the lime to extract juice and pulp onto the mixture. Process until smooth, but textured. Add olive oil and honey and mix with a fork until well blended.

Cleanse skin with your favorite cleanser. Dampen a cotton pad with apple cider vinegar and smooth over face and neck. Carefully avoid eye and lip area. (This step may tingle a little. Some redness is common. For sensitive skin, soak cotton pad with water prior to applying ACV). Apply the masque to your skin while sitting or standing. Avoid the eye and lip areas. Relax for 10 minutes.

Remove excess masque with your fingers, leaving a fine layer on the skin. Prepare a steam bath by simmering water over the stove. While the water heats up, massage the masque into the skin using deep, upward circular movements. Continue to massage for three-five minutes.

Turn off the heat on the stove. Lean your face over the steam rising from the water. Drape a towel over your head to create a tent preventing the steam from escaping. Enjoy the steam bath for three minutes. Use a washcloth soaked in warm water to remove the masque and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Why It's Good for You:

The Avocado Citrus Masque is perfect for healing dehydrated skin from all of the time spent outside. Using avocado, pineapple and lime, this fresh-smelling masque will make skin glow.

Spa Sonic Skin Care System vs. Clarisonic Skin Care Brush

Check out the Spa Sonic, (compare prices) a budget-friendly Clarisonic-type skin care brush system that you use with your facial and body cleanser to help exfoliate your skin.? The skin care system is readily available at stores such as Target and Walmart and will only cost you $65 verses Clarisonic's $195. (Clarisonic actually has 4 different tools that range in price from $119 to $225, but the Spa Sonic is most like the Clarisonic Classic. compare prices)

Some of the websites that sell the Spa Sonic have the words, "Compares to the Clarisonic", so I really wanted to not only review the product, but break down the differences between both systems.? I have been using the Spa Sonic for a few weeks now, and Mary-Ellen has been using the Clarisonic for quite some time.? We collaborated on this review to give you a good analysis of both the Spa Sonic and the Clarisonic so you can see if shelling out the extra $130 is worth it.

Check out our article, Spa Sonic Skin Care Brush Vs. Clarisonic Skin Brush to see to see what we think of both products.

Bikini Waxing Techniques

You may have realized that a professional bikini wax can be quite different than a leg wax. And not just because you're more exposed, there are styles (or designs, color and jewels for the more daring) to choose from and it's a very delicate region. Often a different wax is used and you may be asked to help in the service. Read more about this crafty process and why the Esthetician needs to do certain things or use specific products: Bikini Waxing Techniques.

Overplucked Eyebrows Help

Overplucked eyebrows can be seen walking through the Mall, watching the local football game and most definitely surface in the High School lunch line. Along with making a poor frame for the eyes they can create the wrong kind of focal point, and don't work in balance with the other facial features. We tell you how to avoid less than beautiful brows and what you can do to fix them on the double.

How this Mess Happens

Picture a woman gazing in the mirror with tweezers in hand and a look of determination on her face. She's thinking that if she creates thinner eyebrows, it will take years off. Now imagine a young girl who insists her eyebrows are way too thick and wants to get rid of her friend 'caterpillars'.

With a wish and a prayer, they begin removing hair, one by one. Before too long, the shape looks like two half circles and the brows are as thin as Sean Connerys' head. Jumping in with both feet, neither one thought of the consequences. Thankfully, this does not have to be your story. Barely-there brows can be avoided or fixed.

But They're too Thick

If your eyebrows seem too bushy, bulky or long don't start out by removing hair. Sometimes when the excess bulk is gone it makes the world of difference.

Brush the hair up with a clean mascara spoolie and trim the hair with small scissors (see step by step: how to trim eyebrows). This will help you see more clearly which, if any hair, you want to remove.

Have a Shape in Mind, First

Before you start tweezing, have a game plan. This isn't the time to just 'wing it.' By considering the shape of your face and other features with your own personal style, the brows will start, end and arch all in the right places.

Some Help:

Use a white eye pencil to basically white out the hair you want to tweeze. Then go one by one and take your time. Stop and look after each and every hair pulled. Things can turn south quickly, so go slow and steady.

But your best bet would be to seek out a professional for advice. With your preference and input professionals can also shape them and at least get you started for you to follow that line in the future.

Fill for Instant Thicker Eyebrows

If you are well beyond that, don't fret. I will try and get you through the tough road you're experiencing.

First, you can use an eyebrow pencil to define and even create a thicker-looking brow. Choosing a shade that is the same or very close to your brow color is essential to making it look natural and not painted on. If you have a hard time deciding, opt for a neutral color like Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil (buy direct).

Create the shape on the bottom of your eyebrow by drawing a soft line in the shape that you need. Then with a slightly lighter shade, you can fill in your brows by using a hair stroke. This is not a line drawn across your brow but rather a short stroke up as your hair would grow. An easy hand creates a more natural look rather than a hard dark line.

Complete Kits:

These all come with stencils to help you achieve a great shape, brow pencils or powder and some even have a wax to tame unruly hair. These will allow you to play around with shape and color since they generally have more than one tone to customize the shade yourself. These are great alternatives for those who don't know what shape would best suit them.

Encourage Hair Growth

There are also items out there that will actually help stimulate the hair growth. If you have already over tweezed and the hair seems to be slow growing back or coming in patchy, you can certainly try products like Talika Lipocils (compare prices) or Brow Relonge (compare prices). These items, although costly, boast eyebrow stimulation that may give you results in four to six weeks.

To Sum it Up

The best advice I got was to leave my brows alone. It's a challenge but it can be done. Leave the shaping to a professional and you can keep it up with an occasional clean up if you have the will power to stop.

Silk’n Story: Part IV

I've used Silk'n system for a total of six times on my legs and underarms. Treatments one (read first review) through four were spaced about two weeks apart and the fifth and sixth treatments with a four week gap in between.

Silk'n Hair-Ridding Results

I would say my legs have about a 70% hair reduction and my underarms about 45% from six treatments. The disappointing part is that I have more hair now, after my sixth treatment, than the results from when I finished up my fourth.

Things were going so well, and I was very happy with the results after my fourth treatment (read review) when I had an eyeball estimate of 60% hair reduction in my underarms and about 75% on my legs. Then right before my fifth treatment, hair that was gone started to sprout back again, especially in my underarms. Hair again slowly became reduced down from my fifth and sixth treatment. I was surprised at the re-growth using Silk'n because this didn't happen when using Tria laser at home, hair that was gone through treatments stayed away.

Another Cartridge

During my fifth treatment I had to change the cartridge for the third time. It's extremely easy to do, and a warning light comes on to let you know when you're getting close.

New Model Appears

Silk'n SensEpil was released, so I was able to try that for my sixth treatment. It uses the same technology as the original Silk'n, but has a built-in skin sensor and some other cosmetic changes at a lower price. I still have more treatments to go. I'll be sure to keep you updated on my ongoing results, get the latest through my hair removal newsletter.

Update

Read my results after ten treatments in Part V.

As is common in the beauty industry, the writer was provided with Silk'n for the purpose of reviewing it. The system will be returned back to the company when she's completely done with doing all of the necessary treatments. While it has not influenced this review, About.com believes in full disclosure of all potential conflicts of interest. For more information, see our ethics policy.

If you have oily skin, using a face mask is one of the best ways to draw out excess oil and reduce your acne. Masks are easy to use. In fact, they really don't take any thought or effort on your part. You simply apply it to your skin and let it do its job while you sit back and relax. Plus, only needing to use your mask once or twice a week really makes it easy to treat your skin to the skin-purifying benefits of a mask.

We made a list of 12 Face Masks for Oily Skin that get great reviews by users who are seeing vast improvement in their oily or acne-prone skin. Some of these masks are best saved for evening or weekend mornings due to their long sit time, but others work their magic in 5 minutes or less, making them great for any day.

What SPF Level is Best?

Question: Is a Higher SPF Level the Best Option in Sunscreen?

There are many misconceptions with sunscreen. You have those people who think that getting the highest SPF will protect them better than a lower SPF. Then, there are those who won't use sunscreen with a high SPF because they think they won't get a tan.

Here are the facts.

Answer:

Higher SPF's aren't always necessary. You need to look at a couple of things when you are shopping for sunscreen. First, how light is your skin tone? Those with lighter skin will usually burn faster than those with darker or olive skin. If your skin starts to turn red fast, you'll want a higher SPF.

But what does the SPF rating really mean?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. To figure out how long you are safe from the sun (at least the UVB rays) you need to do a little math. Take the number of SPF and multiply it by 10. That is the time that if you were under perfect conditions, you'd be safe from the sun's rays.

For example: SPF 20 x 10 = 200 minutes of sun protection

Perfect conditions mean that you aren't in water or sweating, two things that usually go hand in hand with the sun. This also doesn't reflect sunscreen that can rub off from your clothing.

Because you want to be safe from the sun, I'd recommend applying every 1-2 hours, no matter the SPF.

6 Budget Sunsreen Brands

Do you feel overwhelmed with the vast array of sunscreen brands at the drugstore? You're not alone! But rest assured you can find a sunscreen brand at the drugstore that will not only protect your skin from the sun, but also keep your wallet happy.

That way you'll have a little extra cash to splurge on that lip gloss you eyed in the makeup aisle.

Neutrogena

Neutrogena: Sheer Dry Touch SunblockImage courtesy PriceGrabber

Neutrogena is our favorite drugstore sunscreen brands. It includes Helioplex which blocks a vast amount of UVA rays, something that many sunscreens miss.

UVA rays are so potent that they penetrate through the windows and clothing and while UVA rays don't typically cause your skin to burn, they cause aging signs and skin cancer.

We love that you can find a wide array of SPF levels that go up to SPF100. (Nope, not a typo!) They also have a facial sunscreen that has SPF90 protection.

Neutrogena also has sunscreen that adds gradual color, so you can apply your self tanner and sunscreen in one application.

Compare Prices

Aveeno

Aveeno: Continuous ProtectionImage courtesy PriceGrabber

Aveeno has a wide variety of sunscreens that will definitely fit your needs. Our favorite is Continuous Protection which comes in SPF range 30 to 70.

This sunscreen comes in a spray bottle that can be sprayed in every direction needed so you don't miss a square inch. It's quick and easy, especially great for squirmy kids who would rather run and play than stay put for a complete lotion rubdown.

It does take a few minutes to dry completely, but once dry you won't even know it's there.

Compare Prices

Blue Lizard

Blue Lizard SunscreenImage courtesy PriceGrabber

Blue Lizard is an Australian-based sunscreen that adheres to the guidelines put in place by the Australian government.

Why should that mean anything to you? Because skin cancer rates in Australia are much higher than anywhere else, and products there have to pass strict guidelines.

Blue Lizard has a range of sunscreen that contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to block both UVA and UVB rays effectively.

One cool feature Blue Lizard Sunscreen bottles have is that they turn blue when placed in UV rays. It's a good reminder to see the rays you're trying to avoid and it might help keep you from forgetting to reapply.

Alba Botanica

Alba Botanica: Green Tea Sunscreen SPF 30Image courtesy PriceGrabber

If you're looking for a vegetarian sunscreen, or just one that doesn't smell like sunscreen, look no further than Alba Botanica's line of suncreens.

We love their Green Tea SPF 30 sunscreen, but if you're a lavender fan, you'll like their lavender-scented SPF 30. (One reviewer even noted the lavender kept the bugs away!)

The line has a range of sunscreens that vary from SPF15 to SPF30. They also have fantastic-flavored lip balm with SPF protection as well.

Alba Botanica products are all cruelty-free and their sunscreens fall in the vegan range.

Mission Skin Care

Mission Ultra-Sweatproof Sunscreen SPF30Image provided by Mission Skin Care

Athletes rejoice because finally you can find a sunscreen that won't melt off or sting your eyes. Mission Skin Care offers a variety of sunscreens and lip balms with SPF, you're sure to find one that you love.

Our favorite from the line is the Ultra-Sweatproof Sunscreen SPF30. It goes on smooth, dries fast and stays on. Even if you're not a runner or biker, chances are good you or your children are sweating when out in the sun.

If this sunscreen provides enough protection for marathon runners and other athletes, it's certainly good enough for doing a little yard work or going out on the boat.

Bull Frog

Bull Frog Surfer Gel SPF 36Image courtesy PriceGrabber

You won't find anyone saying negative things about the protection Bull Frog Surfer Gel Sunscreen SPF36 provides. They claim it provides coverage for 8 hours, and the skeptics that we are tried to prove them wrong. And much to our surprise, we couldn't!

This sunscreen provides amazing protection for much longer than we'd typically recommend you go without reapplication. We read reviews from people in the pool all day to those who applied once and went off to the beach for the entire afternoon. Not a single burn from any of them.

Now, we'd still recommend reapplication at least once throughout the day, but this is the real deal!

Home Laser Hair Removal

At home laser hair removal is also an option over going to a spa or clinic. You can perform the treatments in the privacy of home at your convenience while owning a personal device. Working similarly to the professional treatments, the best candidates are those with light skin and dark hair and require multiple treatments for optimal results.

Although you can save a substantial amount of money over professional treatments, look very carefully into the model before purchasing so you don’t waste your money. And like with any high-tech device, make sure to fully read the instructions and precautions before using.

1. Tria

tria laser at home, triaPhoto c Chris Roy
A cordless rechargeable diode laser cleared by the FDA for use on the neck down, it has three (most recent version now has five) adjustable settings to control the amount of heat. A skin sensor comes in the kit to test your skin tone, and only if you pass with a green light will the Tria unlock for use.

You can read about my experience trying Tria:

2. Silk'n

silkn laser at home, Photo c HomeSkinovations
Although it's not a laser, it used pulsed light, which works similarly to laser hair removal to disable hair growth. Cleared by the FDA also for use on the neck down applying this Home Pulsed Light? (HPL?) technology, or optical energy to disable hair growth. It has five adjustable settings going from low to high and is made by HomeSkinovations. Their newest model Silk'n SensEpil has a built-in skin sensor to check skin tone for safety.

You can read about my experience trying Silk'n:

3. Epila

It's a diode laser for home, and the fact that it's cheaper than Silk'n and Tria is appealing. But it's not cleared by the FDA, the guidelines and negative feedback on this product will have you thinking twice before purchasing.

What to Do if You Overpluck Your Eyebrows

 overplucked eyebrows, overpluck brows

After a look in the mirror, you know you need to do something with those brows- their arch is almost unseen. But after tweezing, tweezing and more tweezing (to even them out of course), it leads to a not-so-pretty scene. They're now way too thin. Back in the 70s, even if pencil thin brows weren't your aim, you would have been able to get away with it by blending in with everyone else.

But that's not the case now in 2011. So here's what to do if the tweezers got a little too happy: How to Fix Overplucked Eyebrows.

Top 5 Acne Myths

It seems like everyone is an expert when it comes to telling you what causes acne. The word "myth" is defined by dictionary.com as "an unproved or false collective belief...", and boy are there many of those when it comes to acne.

See if you have been fooled into believing that your acne is caused by one of the following 5 acne myths.

1. Chocolate, Pizza, French Fries

While acne is not just a problem for teens, teens do tend to consume a lot of the foods thought by many to cause acne. And because kids can sometimes be mean, those with acne have a tendency to be picked on when eating these so-called "acne foods". I'm happy to let you know that your acne is not caused by what you eat. While you don't want to only eat fried or greasy foods, feel free to have that piece of pizza or occasional candy bar with the peace of mind that foods do not cause acne.

2. You Don't Wash Your Face Enough

While it is important for everyone to take good care of their skin, and that includes washing it twice a day, those without acne may think that those with acne don't wash their face enough. This is false thinking. Acne comes from far below the skin's surface. Washing your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser is needed, but don't go overboard with harsh exfoliators and scrubs. These will only spread bacteria causing future breakouts. Be glad to know that if you're washing your face in the morning and before bed, you're doing all the right steps. If mid-day oil is a problem, buy some oil-blotting sheets and stick them in your bag so they're handy.

3. Acne is Only A Problem For Teens

How I wish I could tell you this is true for everyone. The fact of the matter is that most of the acne problems do affect teens and young adults, but adult acne is also a common occurrence. You have no idea how many times I hear, "Who knew I'd still have to deal with acne in my 30's!".

While those adults who deal with acne don't have it nearly as bad as they did when they were teens, acne can still rear it's ugly head at any time. If you're dealing with acne in your late 20's or 30's, you probably only deal with the occasional few breakouts. If you have more then that, it's time to go to the Dermatologist. There is medicine to treat acne; you don't have to suffer any longer.

4. Nothing Will Get Rid of Acne

If you're dealing with acne and you truly believe this, I've got good news for you. Your acne is treatable if you find the right products and medicines. I highly recommend a visit to a dermatologist so your skin can be evaluated. Why waste money on over the counter products that may or may not work for you. Go to the expert and let them decide what will work for your skin.

You may need a new skin care regime, antibiotics or even stronger prescriptions to scare your acne away, but you'll never know if you don't go. Don't be embarrassed; it's what they do!

5. Laying in the Sun Will Make Your Acne Go Away

Not only is this false, it's a sure fire way to start the aging process early in life. Did you know that 90% of premature aging is caused by unprotected sun exposure? Tan skin may hide redness from acne, but it doesn't do anything to make your acne go away.

Before you hit the beach, grab your sunblock and apply it at least every 2 hours. You don't want to look like you're a decade older than you really are in another 5 years.

Soothe Your Sunburn

If you spent too much time outdoors without enough sunscreen, chances are good you got sunburned. Sunburn is a very painful problem that needs proper treatment.

By following these suggestions, you can make the healing process a bit easier.

Time Required: n/a

Here's How:

  1. Get out of the sun. This may sound like a no-brainer, but as a boat owner, I've heard many people say, "I already am burned; what's the big deal if I stay out another couple of hours?" The big deal is the fact that your mild sunburn could easily turn into a blistering second-degree sunburn which would need medical attention. If you think your mild sunburn hurts, you don't want to experience a second-degree burn. Get out of the sun.

  2. Take a cool shower or bath. Sunburn is very common to other types of burns, and your skin will feel very hot to the touch. You will feel instant (but temporary) relief from a cool shower or bath. Add in oatmeal for extra soothing relief.

  3. Soothe your skin with Aloe Vera. This is something you've probably heard before, but it really is an easy way to get relief. A great idea would be to purchase an aloe houseplant that you can easily snap off a stem when needed. If you don't have a green thumb, you can get an aloe gel at your local drugstore. Apply multiple times a day for relief.

  4. Continue to moisturize. Your skin is parched from the burn, and if you don't moisturize it, you'll have a horrible itchy feeling until it is gone. Go with a natural based moisturizer like Cocoa Butter. Cocoa Butter melts at skin temperature which allows it to sink right in.

  5. Take a pain reliever. Sunburn can be quite painful, and a pain reliever like tylenol or advil will help reduce the pain. Continue to take it around the clock at least the first 1-2 days for consistent pain relief.

  6. Seek medical attention when necessary. Sunburn isn't always best to treat at home. If you see multiple blisters or have severe pain, see your doctor. He or she will help determine the best choice of action and prescribe stronger pain medication if necessary.

  7. Play it safe. Once you've experienced a painful sunburn, you never want to go through it again. Get a couple of bottles of sun screen and keep them with you at home and in the car. How many times do you unexpectedly go somewhere with your friends without thinking ahead to bring sun screen. If you have a bottle in your car, you'll be prepared no matter the situation.

Tips:

  1. Apply sunscreen 20-30 minutes before heading out. This will give the sunscreen a chance to start working before you start soaking up the rays.
  2. Reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours, more if you're in the water or sweating a lot.
  3. Always wear a hat to protect your scalp and sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  4. Lips sunburn faster than your skin. Apply a SPF lip balm when applying your sunscreen.

What You Need:

  • Cool Shower or Bath
  • Aloe
  • Moisturizer
  • Pain Reliever

Most men's mustaches won't curve out on their own. They curl the hair out and hold it in place with mustache wax (compare prices).
