Epila Laser hair removal is a device sold on the internet that claims the same professional laser results at home. Not being FDA cleared like other models, allowing use on the face and dark skin tones and very negative feedback from people who did purchase are some big alarms for me.
How Does It Work?
This device uses a diode laser to disable hair growth. Like all laser treatments it recommends multiple sessions for the best results.
Alarms:
- On their website F.A.Q. page is says there are no pre-treatment instructions, and that worries me. In reality, you should avoid any hair removal method that removes the hair follicle from the root like waxing, sugaring or threading for at least six weeks. Otherwise if the hair is gone, the laser will have nothing to target and you won’t get results.
Who Can I Use It and What Areas?
On their questions and answers page, it does say that light skin and dark hair is the best combination for laser hair removal, but then goes on to say that the diode laser may improve treatment results even on the darkest skin types.
While other laser at home devices like Tria and Silk’n are not approved for use on the face, the makers of Epila say you can use in anywhere except the area adjacent to the eye.
Alarms:
- The diode laser should never be used on dark skin tones because it can result in damage to the skin like blistering or scarring.
- Using a home laser device on the face can cause serious eye injury and also stimulate facial hair growth on women.
Does Eplia Laser Hurt?
In general, lasers can be likened to a slight sensation of heat, and the device has three adjustable settings: low, medium and high.
Alarms:
- Their F.A.Q. page says there are not pre-treatment instructions. Most professional laser treatments and both Tria and Silk’n (home laser hair removal devices) require you to shave right before the treatment. If you don't shave and have hair above the skin's surface you will have much more pain than necessary.
How Effective Is It?
Hair grows in different stages: growing, resting and shedding. Because all of the hair isn’t on the same stage at any given time, multiple treatments are needed to get the hair in the growth phase, for the laser to be most effective.
Alarms:
- I emailed the company and asked them if I could test the product and review it on this website. I got one of those automated reply messages, so I know they received my email. Months went by with no personal response at all. Most companies are more than happy to let you try their product, that is if they stand behind it.
- Many purchasers responded that they could not get any email response or a refund from of the makers of Epila.
- Read more Epila comments from users in the forum.
- Many comments were left in blog posts about Epila.
