How To Dye Eyebrows

If you dye your eyebrows then you don’t have to use pencil each day, as it lasts four to eight weeks and fades gradually. This is a good option if you’re not filling in sparse areas, but need to add some depth to your brows because they’re too light or are getting gray.

You'll need to use dye especially made for brows, not regular hair color for the hair on your head as it's much stronger and can really hurt your eyes.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 15 minutes to dye eyebrows

Here's How:

  1. Cleanse brows. Use plain lukewarm water on a cotton pad to gently clean brows and surrounding skin. Pat dry.
  2. Get supplies. You'll need color (buy direct), disposable mascara wands, disposable gloves, petroleum jelly, and toothpicks.
  3. Protect skin. You don’t want skin to get colored too. So take a cotton swab and apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the surrounding skin around brows. Do not get the petroleum jelly on the brows, or you will block the color from taking hold. If you have dry skin, this is a very important step because you're more prone to soak up the color and become stained.
  4. Protect your hands. Put on disposable gloves so your hands don't get stained.
  5. Mix color. According to the manufacturer’s directions, mix the color. It’s usually a two part solution with color and developer that’s activated when mixed.
  6. Apply color. First use a toothpick to lift up hairs to apply color close to the root. Then dip disposable mascara wand into the color and use the tip of the wand to apply color to the rest of the brows. Do not touch skin to avoid staining.
  7. Process. Now it’s time to let the color take hold. Leave on according to the manufacturer’s directions to dye eyebrows.
  8. Remove. Rinse brows with water and gentle cleanser.

Tips:

  1. Perform a small test patch 24 hours prior to using, in case you are allergic to the product.
  2. In case you're unsure of the color to use, always pick lighter than darker.
  3. Even if you have very dark eyebrows, do not use black because it will make your brows look fake. Use black only for lashes. Brown is the most commonly used brow color.
  4. Wait 24 hours after you have tweezed, waxed or sugared your brows.
  5. Do not apply color over broken skin or pimples.
