What to do About Baby Acne

Question: What to do About Baby Acne

My newborn baby is perfect, but she suddenly broke out with a face full of baby acne. Is it normal? What should I do about it? When will it go away?

Answer:

This is a very common question for new parents. Your beautiful newborn baby is stunning until one day you notice a pimple and soon enough her face is full baby acne. It's not fair, is it? But rest assured, your little princess is not the only one. This is one of the most common infant skin problems. Baby acne is thought to be caused by hormones left from mom in the final weeks of pregnancy. It's something that usually pops up in the first few weeks of life and then goes away by 4-6 months.

So, what can you do about it? As with most things in life, patience is key. Because your baby's acne is not caused by having dirty skin, do not use hard cleansing products on her skin. You should not scrub or use over the counter acne medication on her skin. If you do that, you could cause irritation that will cause further skin problems. Do not squeeze the acne either, as this could cause scarring.

If you're patient, you can be certain that this will be another part of your baby's fleeting moments. One day you'll notice that they are all gone.
